Selima and Selim are twins who have just celebrated their 20th birthday. Orphans since their mother died giving birth to them, they live in Tunis with their father ALI, a lawyer at the Tunis Bar. Ali has never recovered from his wife's death. He blames his children for their mother's death and stubbornly refuses to answer their questions about her. One day, Selima discovers that girls inherit only half as much as their brothers. She asks her father, "Do fathers love their daughters only half as much?"
