Biography

Bob Trumpy is a former Pro Bowl tight end and accomplished football broadcaster, best known for his long-standing role as a color commentator with NBC Sports. Trumpy played his entire NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals from 1968 to 1977, earning two Pro Bowl selections and emerging as one of the most reliable receiving tight ends of his era. After retiring from the field, Trumpy transitioned into broadcasting and became a key figure in NBC’s NFL coverage throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He was often paired with play-by-play veterans like Don Criqui and Charlie Jones, bringing a calm, analytical presence to each broadcast. His commentary drew on his playing experience, offering thoughtful insight into offensive schemes, line matchups, and situational strategy without ever overwhelming the viewer.
