Set in the 1930s, the story follows Ana Clara Guimarães, the intelligent daughter of a milkman who falls in love with the wealthy Carlos Eduardo da Silva Prates. Although they dream of building a life together, their romance is threatened by Carlos Eduardo's ambitious mother, Melânia, who conspires to separate them.
