Told in reverse chronological order, the story starts in the present (June 7, 1994), when the stock market rebounded after the market became volatile and crashed for the weekend. After the stock market stopped trading for the weekend, the Ting's make the wrong bet and their entire fortune is wiped out, compounded by ending up in billions of dollars in debt. Ting Hai forces his sons to commit suicide by jumping off from the top of the stock exchange building before following after them.

Ling-wu Chung, a senior student of the Wah Mount Sect, was not at all brilliant when he joined the Sect, but was soon taught to master the sword by a legendary swordsman Yeung. Chung, on the other hand, becomes the leader of the Hang Mount Sect by chance and falls in love with Kwan's daughter. When she betrays him, he turns to the daughter of the Devil Sect leader, and thus causes a love triangle between them.

After the death of his fiancee (Pauline Yeung), triad legend Ming Tin (Alex Man) washes his hands of the underworld, retreating to a quiet life running a small mahjong parlor. Ming Tin lives with his mother (Lee Heung Kam), uncle (Ng Man Tat), and cousin Gam Sui (Stephen Chow). Ming Tin and Gam Sui are as close as brothers, but Gam Sui's father has a grudge against Ming Tin, leading to many barbs and bickers in this odd family. When Gam Sui and his father unwittingly stumble onto the wrong sides of the track, it's up to Ming Tin to pull them back with his old connections.

From then on, Yongzheng ruthlessly eliminated dissidents and even betrayed those who helped him, causing Lusi to regret her involvement. Ultimately, the fourteenth prince plotted to assassinate Yongzheng with the help of Zeng Jing and Lusi, igniting a fierce battle.

During the Chongzhen reign of the Ming Dynasty, eunuch Cao Huachun colludes with the Qing dynasty to seize the throne. All the males on board are being interrogated with torture, but the passengers pool their efforts to subdue the traitor and accomplish their mission.

Cheung framed Chan For. Chan orders his wife not to tell this to their children, Ah Lan and Hung. His wife passes away. On her deathbed, she asked a neighbour, To Chung-man, to take care of her children. Claiming to be a good friend of their father, Chan For moves in to the bed next to Ah Lan to take care of his children. Hung likes this uncle because he always treats him generously. But Ah Lan finds "Uncle For" weird and enthusiastic. Ah Lan is forced to pay her mother's debt. Hung is suffering from acute appendicitis. To solve Ah Lan's financial problem, Chung-man returns to his rich family and accept an arranged marriage. Ah Lan decides to sell herself to the construction site foreman for one night. Chan For wants to stop his daughter from making this deal, so he agrees to work for Cheung again. The next day he carries out a robbery and is caught. Ah Lan and Chung-man visit him in jail, and hold their wedding ceremony in front of him. He looks forward to the days when he returns.
